Twitter has always been my favorite place for engaging and building relationships with people online, and getting traffic. Second would be donated to Facebook and 3rd probably to LinkedIn. In the last 3 months Twitter has been in my top 5 for traffic sources to my blog, and that’s largely thanks to using JustRetweet.
I’m always chuffed when I see like minded people who share the same interests, goals and ambitions wanting to make a connection with me on Twitter, or have chosen to follow me. I always make an encouraging effort to follow them back and then try to establish a relationship with many of my followers, usually those who interact with me on other social sites such as Facebook and also my blog, however I don’t always follow everybody that decides to follows me, and in this post I want to share with you some valid reasons why.
Reasons Why I Won’t Follow You Back On Twitter…
1. You think you’re Barack Obama, Brad Pitt or Steve Jobs…
Yes I know you admire Mr Obama and what ever it is that he does, but seriously why the heck are you using the face of some other famous person as your Twitter profile image?
Do you think you’re going to get popular and get thousands of Twitter followers by doing so? Because you’re seriously aren’t. If anything you’re going to put a lot of people off, and possibly even give the impression to some people that you’re nothing more than a spammer, and personally I don’t want to follow someone who’s going to spam me with crap, no disrespect.
So if this sounds like you or something you’re doing, consider changing your tactic quickly. You should always try and use your own image, that’s an image of yourself and not a celebrity image or company logo either.
2. Your profile bio sucks BIG TIME!
Why are you on Twitter exactly, can you tell me?
Because as far as I can see, I can’t tell jack shit from reading your profile bio, again no disrespect, and since I can’t read your profile bio properly or worst still, you don’t have one, that means I can’t get to know who you are and what you do, therefore I cannot follow you back.
Not having a profile bio to me spells laziness, and if you’re too lazy to fill in your bio and use a real photo of yourself, why are you even on Twitter?
3. Your recent tweets are no interest to me
When someone follows me, I get a nice notification through to my iPhone or iPad, I rarely use Twitter on my desktop computer. After checking the above two points I don’t usually go as far as checking tweets if I think you’re just another spammer on Twitter.
However if I’m impressed with your profile so far, I’ll check out your tweets, and if it’s related or I’m interested in the resource you’re sharing, I’ll follow you back. But if you appear to be talking to yourself, i.e. ranting on about what you last had to eat or what you’re watching on TV, I’m not remotely interested, and I simply won’t follow you back.
Also without prejudice, if you’re tweeting in a different language that I cannot understand other than English, I clearly wouldn’t be encouraged to follow you back.
One more thing, if I notice that you tweet relentlessly non-stop, in other words too frequently, and… you don’t RT other content and resources from other users, only your own content, I also won’t be following you back.
4. You follow hundreds of people, but hardly anyone is following you…
Well that just says it all…
5. I decide to follow you, but then you ruin it totally…
Oh boy! what a failure… If it’s one thing that I can’t stand and that’s spam. If I decide to follow you back, it’s the start of a good thing, but then you decide to send me a spammy direct message thanking me for following you back accompanied by your spammy link? It’s a total waste of time, I don’t need a thank you message! and secondly I don’t need to have your spammy link about ‘your proven success strategy for instant wealth’ shoved in my face… Sorry if it sounds harsh and blunt but the moment that happens, you’re instantly unfollowed.
Over to you…
