Secrets To Local SEO

Search engines have changed drastically in the past two years. The main points are below:

Google Panda Update: Gave less authority to content farms like ezinearticles and other big general article directories. They gave more authority to niche websites because they felt that websites with one theme would seem like the expert in its field.

Local Maps: When searching for general terms like “plumber” they show up local business listings because they believe that you are looking for a service.

Maps have changed the whole user interface of the search engines. Maps only used to be located on the upper right side of the search engine. Now they are in beta testing and you will notice that they show up differently. They are trying to figure out what the best user experience is.

Now with this said!  Lets get onto the Secrets!

Well they are really not secrets but this is how you can crush it and get great rankings for local SEO.

Lets first look at National SEO:

  1. On Page Optization – Title Tags, H1 Tags, Content
  2. Off Page Optimization – How many quality reputable links you can have pointing to your website

First you have to tell the search engines what kind of website you have. This is by On-Page Optimization. Once this is completed search engines look to how credible your website is by looking how old your domain is and how many quality links are pointing to it.

Local SEO is a combination

  1. You Need On Page Optimization
  2. The more credible with links pointing to it will help you
  3. ****** You have to generate Citations from major Directories like Google, Bing, Yahoo and more

Citations….. Citations….. Citations

Citations are business listings. You have to submit your business to major directories like Google, Bing, Yahoo and more.

Here is the catch that does not make it spammy.

Once you submit your business address to Google they will send you a post card with a pin number. You will have to submit the pin number to end up on the maps section.  This is also the same for Bing.  Some other directories do not send you a pin number but does it really matter? They get no traffic. The main place you want to be listed right now is Google and (Bing a little bit – has potential)!

If you do own a small business I suggest you work on getting citations so you can start showing up on local map searches in your area. This is a great way to jump start your business.
