1. Create your own Affiliate Program
The first and foremost thing to do is create your own affiliate program. The reason being is that so you can let others help you promote your products and services. Also it’s a great way to build genuine backlinks to your product landing page too. If you’re not too sure where to start, check out the eJunkie Marketplace or Clickbank. These two affiliate marketplaces in my mind are amongst the best places on the web to start building your own affiliate program.
2. Offer an Awesome Commission Rate
Once you have your affiliate program setup, it’s time to think about how much commission you’re willing to offer your affiliates for promoting your product or service. Depending on the quality of your product, it’s got to be worth their while, so offer an attractive rate. Something like 75 or 80% to begin with.
3. Offer a Globally Recognized Payment Gateway
PayPal… say no more… If you’re going to use a marketplace like eJunkie or JVZoo to set up your affiliate program, then these two uses PayPal to process payments, people trust what they know and PayPal has been around for almost as long as the internet has… almost, give 7 years.
4. Provide All the Marketing Tools
Ensure your affiliates have all the tools they need to get started with promoting your products or services. I.e. banners, email templates, per-defined tweets, videos, etc.
5. Get to Know Your Affiliates
One of the biggest reasons why so many people fail to make money promoting their own products through an affiliate program, is because they simply don’t reach out enough.
Get to know your affiliates, when someone signs up send them an acknowledgment email, tell them if there is absolutely anything you can do for them you’ll do it. Connect and engage with them on social sites and build a long lasting professional relationship with them; it will certainly pay off in the long run.
6. Create Affiliate Contests
Finally, affiliate contests are a great way to boost promotions, sales and increase profits, and it’s also a great way to reward your top performing affiliates. Start small by rewarding with small cash rewards and who knows, one day you might be rewarding with great gifts.
