6 Panda Killing Tips To Optimize Your Blog After Google Panda Update

The latest Google Panda update is no doubt hurting a lot of bloggers, I for one can report a 20% decrease in traffic in the last two weeks, (I was hoping the Easter holidays might have had something to do with the traffic drop). One of the things that many SEO specialists believe is that the latest update looks at further penalizing websites for having too many spammy or unnatural back links and websites that have been over SEO’d, what ever the hell that means, so it’s probably wise now to start looking at how you create more natural back links to your blog, and pay a little more attention to detail.

Now more than ever, social media plays an even important roll in our online marketing efforts. Especially since SEO seems to be becoming much harder to do, and getting your website to rank higher is an uphill challenge. But SEO isn’t quite dead yet, we’ll still rely on SEO to get organic traffic in the many years to come, needless to say the way we do it is changing.

So asides from the all too obvious and TOO important tip; create high quality original content, this will always be top of the list, but you also need to work much harder to get your readers tweeting, sharing on Facebook, giving a Plus One, Pinning on Pinterest, linking on LinkedIn and so forth as much as possible.

Google Panda 3.3

Below are some tips I’ve put together to help you focus your efforts more on optimizing your online marketing efforts and your blog, after the latest Google Panda update.

Tip 1 – Focus on creating more natural looking backlinks to your blog; don’t excessively use your primary keyword to anchor text-link, diversify a little. The same applies when using anchor text links to create in-links to other pages in your blog.

Tip 2 -Don’t rely on just one or two sources for all your backlinks i.e. a forum and a blog; ensure you pull links from various sites, such as article sites, web 2.0 property sites, niche blogs, social book marking sites, forums etc.

Tip 3 – Make it easy for your readers to share your content on social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus and Pinterest.

Tip 4 – Pay close attention to broken links, use a plugin like the Broken Link Checker to find and fix broken links.

Tip 5 – Work on trying to reduce your blog’s bounce rate, anything over 75 or 80% is something to worry about. Try and get it under or around 70% if possible. Google keeps a close eye on sites that are slow and have a high bounce rate, and ranks or de-ranks them accordingly. Here are some tips to consider when working on reducing your bounce rate –

  • Focus on the quality of your content
  • Check your blog’s loading time
  • Consider moving to a more reliable web host (Affiliate link) if you’re experiencing slow loading times
  • Use the nRelate plugin to encourage readers to explore other content on your blog

Tip 6 – Don’t place too many ads above the fold.

If you’ve been demoted in your blog’s traffic from Google Panda 3.4 update, work on the tips above and you’ll soon win your traffic back, keep your readers and Google happy and you’ll be onto a winner.

Please share your thoughts on my tips above, if you have any of your own you’d like to share please do so in the comment section below as always.

Your first and most important tip “create high quality content” makes perfect sense. And as far as Google goes, that means: re-posts, tweets, like and strong social sharing etc? thanks for sharing.

Good recommendations, you really have to diversify to protect yourself. Look at 100s of longtail keywords as well.

Important points, but how can you forget to mention to use the quality and original content for your web pages. I think it’s the most crucial point if you want to avoid Google Panda kick.

I have to disagree with the above fold ads thing though. If you look at top ranking sites across many different niches, you can easily see that most of them are plastered with above fold ads.

    • Hi Satrap, thanks for your comment mate, I have noticed that as well to be honest mate, however I’m sure ads above the fold are OK in moderation. I guess it’s having the balance, give your readers value or give them ads first?

      • Now that Satrap has mentioned it, ads above the fold could be as useful as putting more content above the fold. As long as the ads that the visitors see are what they’re looking for, then I guess it’s all good. For example, if you lead them to a page that tells something about how to resell SEO services, and you have ads there leading to some sort of a coupon code for a certain related service, I think it’s all good. What I don’t know is whether Google considers ads as “content” or not.

I don’t know why Google is releasing these silly updates every now and then. They want quality websites to appear high but in my view that is not the case.
