5 Popular Build Your Own Social Network Site Tools

If you fancy yourself as the next Mark Zuckerberg and want to create your own successful social networking site just like Facebook, then check out these five awesome online tools to help you build your very own social networking site, whether it’s personal or business.

Why would you want to build your own social network site?

Lets approach this idea with a business mind.

From a business perspective, having your own social network site is a great way to market and promote your brand, and help your business reach out to more customers.  In addition using your own social platform opens doors to new opportunities for your business, such as providing essential customer services, and simply allowing your clients to connect with you and other users of your site on so many levels, (allowing client to client interaction).

Here’s a broad example; you could use your professional business social network site to stay in touch with your existing client base, by allowing them to use the site to interact with you, raise questions or concerns regarding your products and services, as well as share exclusive ‘client only’ special offers and promotions, the possibilities are endless.

Having your own social network site can also help your business better understand it’s clients needs which is important in this current climate…

For example your staff can engage on a more intimately professional level with your clients, by doing things like answering questions, providing useful links to resources, providing solutions to problems and generally demonstrating their level of expertise to your customer base; it also gives your clients the freedom to also express their own opinions as well as help other users with any problems.

OK so now you understand some of the positive values of building your own social network site, let’s check out the 5 online tools that can help you get the job done.

My favorites from the lists are SocialGo, Ning and Social Engine but I think if I would ever decide to build a social networking site, I would rather go for a self hosted script like Social Engine or Dolphin because that will give us more power over our sites and then the ownership to the sites will also be ours. With these hosted kind of social network sites we never know when they may shut down our site and we never are the real owners of our site

Thanks Shiva, yes I agree with you. I’ve used SocialGo before and they’re definitely one of my top pics they do offer a great range of features. I’m not too sure how user friendly Social Engine is but the fact that you can self-host and have complete control and ownership does appeal to me.

    Hey Fabrizio,

Thanks for sharing and adding SocialEngine to the list! We’re working really hard on our latest release so that the platform is even faster and easier to use than ever before.

I’m happy to hear that you guys are interested in self-hosted options. We pride ourselves on that and like our users to have 100% control over their environment and content at all times. It’s important that if you’re going to spend time building an online community and creating a social network for your niche , you own the content at the end of the day.

All the best and thanks again Fabrizio for the review.
