  1. Make your goals and ambitions clear as to what kind of online business you really want to build, i.e. a blog, an eCommerce website, an eBay business etc
  2. Do your research properly and thoroughly
  3. Set out your long term goals and place them in places where you can be reminded of them every day
  4. Have a clear business development / marketing plan
  5. Decide how much money you are willing to invest into building your online business, and where the money will be coming from, perhaps your day job, savings etc
  6. Decide how much time you are going to put into building your online business.  Consider other commitments (life/work balance) and create a work schedule, then stick to it
  7. Don’t take more on than you can actually physically and mentally manage, try and focus on one area at a time
  8. Always have a contingency plan (plan B), in case one thing, one method or tactic doesn’t work out as you originally planned

Building a successful online business cannot be achieved overnight, you’ll need to be incredibly ambitious and have absolute belief in yourself, even when progress is slow or you are faced with set backs.  Work hard, be patience and your perseverance will pay off, once again, the very best of luck to you.

    Tip #7 is truly golden. This is one of the problems of those just starting out. With all the information on the net and with everyone out there saying one thing or the other most first time wanabes most times end up carrying on their shoulders what they really do not need.     I personally think that 2013 will not be easy for online businesses because at the beginning of this year Google released Panda update and it dropped a lot of keywords from SERP and i am worried about it. However your points are very important but honestly i will say these points are not outstanding, these are just normal tips.

Reading over your suggestions for 2013, I feel good that most of these are things I’ve already started working on. Of course, I could do a better job with organizing my marketing plan on one document instead of a stack of index cards. But as long as I’m following the plan, I still get some points, right?
