Today we’re going to look at sharing photos and images with your Facebook fans and how they can be effectively used to increase engagement, likes and shares.
You’ve heard the famous saying that a photo is worth a thousand words, well this couldn’t be truer. However, when it comes to promoting engagement on your Facebook page using images, you have to be somewhat selective with what types of images you’re sharing, how you’re sharing them and when you’re sharing them.
Here are five useful tips to bear in mind when thinking about using images to promote engaging activities on your Facebook page.
1. Share your own images – Personally I’ve found that sharing my own photo’s, whether it is a screen capture, infographic or a still photo, it can promote more activity and shares on my page than if I were to share something that I’ve found on the web.
Why is this?
Personally I believe is that people can relate to a personal photo more. More so than they can of something that they might have come across already before on the web.
So give it a try, upload and share something like a personal but related image that you believe will encourage engagement. It could be a picture of your dog asleep on your laptop or anything.
Having said all that, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t share interesting images you’ve stumbled upon on the web either, but keep in mind two things, relevancy and humor.
- Relevancy – your audience will find useful
- Humor – your audience will find funny and entertaining, something worth sharing
2. Use quality images – Quality images work well with any audience, the larger and higher quality the image, the better. So consider investing in a quality digital camera such as Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 that will take awesome high quality photos. Alternatively you can use your Smartphone and edit your images before uploading them, if you’re not able to purchase a decent camera.
3. Add a description - If you want to promote a post or content outside of your Facebook page such as a blog post, don’t forget to add a description and a link to the source.
4. Use ‘call to action’ – Using a simple call to action below your images can often help promote more shares and encourage more likes – use something simple like, ‘like or share this if you agree’.
5. Post your images at peak times of the day / week – Consider posting your images at peak times to increase engagement and sharing. It is suggested that posting to Facebook between the hours of 1pm and 4pm EST. Wednesday at 3pm EST is the peak time of the week. Traffic from Facebook generally decreases after 4pm. Traffic is considerably less on weekends, so posts often get less attention than they do on weekdays.
