If you’re not familiar with Darren Rowse and his blog ProBlogger.net, then you’ve yet to discover the blogosphere properly, in fact I can’t imagine that there’s a blogger on this planet that hasn’t heard of Darren Rowse or ProBlogger.

Darren has many great blogging books, eBooks and guides available from his blog, and I’ll be reviewing each and every one of them in the coming months. We’ll start with the ProBlogger’s Guide to your First Week of Blogging, this eBook is not Darren’s first, and so I’m not reviewing them in any particular order.

So this eBook is titled Guide to your First Week of Blogging, you’re probably assuming that you’ve gone passed your first week and don’t need to entertain this eBook, I and I’m sure many others felt the same at some point. But this little guide has a lot to offer, even to those of us who have been blogging for some time.

Let’s take a sneaky look inside…

Inside ProBlogger’s Guide to your First Week of Blogging

The ProBlogger’s Guide to your First Week of Blogging eBook contains 52 pages of awesome ‘gold dust’ content and is laid out in typical ProBlogger style, clean, easy to read and well organized.

Broken down over the course of 7 days, Darren gives precise detailed information and tips that will help you set the foundations for you to build a better blog over 7 days. Just when you thought all you have to do is create tons of great content for your blog to get it rolling off the ground, far from it, your first week of blogging really matters.

Within each day there are a series of tasks for you to do, whether you achieve them in a single day I’d imagine it’s up to you. I went through his guide and applied the techniques to a new blog I started, and I worked at my own pace. So theoretically the seven days became more like 14 days… it really doesn’t matter how you use the guide.

Each task also has an estimated time it will take to complete, i.e. 15 minutes or 30 minutes, which I thought was pretty cool, and encouraging.

Let’s look closer at what each of the 7 days, of your first week of blogging covers –

Day OneSet Solid Foundations, which includes 5 tasks –

  1. Create an Ideas Folder
  2. Create a brainstorm of possible post ideas
  3. Create a regular schedule for your posting
  4. Create a plan of what content you’re going to put our in your first week
  5. Create the ultimate launch post

Day TwoPublish your launch post and get people flocking to your post, which includes 5 tasks –

  1. Publish your killer launch post to the world
  2. Write a post about ‘your story’
  3. Develop a publishing process
  4. Create an ideas folder for your pillar content
  5. Generate presence for your blog through social media

Day ThreeFocus your efforts on content, which includes 5 tasks –

  1. Publish ‘your story’ post
  2. Create your first pillar content post
  3. Using mind mapping, create ideas for a series of posts
  4. Plan out your next awesome post
  5. Start engaging with others

Day FourUnderstand your blog as a product, which includes 5 tasks –

  1. Publish your first pillar post
  2. Prepare and write your next awesome blog post
  3. Start experimenting with formats and blog headlines
  4. Create a content plan
  5. Find and promote a valuable resource through social media

Day FivePut yourself out there and in front of your audience, which includes 4 tasks –

  1. Publish the post you prepared and wrote on day four, then promote it through various means
  2. Start writing your pillar content series generated from the ideas you created in day three
  3. Find content ideas from blog comments
  4. Find out what your audience wants through social media

Day SixDefine and demonstrate quality, which includes 5 tasks –

  1. Publish the first post in your series
  2. Share a useful link or resource through your social network
  3. Start writing the second post in your series
  4. Create a basic style guide for your site
  5. Consider revising your blog’s about page

Day SevenStrategize for your blog’s success, which includes 3 tasks –

  1. Review the direction of your blog
  2. Identify content gaps and create possible post ideas
  3. Refresh your publishing plans

So as you can see the first week of blogging guide covers a lot of stuff however perhaps I should have mentioned at the start of the review that the guide assumes that you already have a blog. It does not cover how to set up a WordPress blog, plugins, themes, hosting or anything like that. It’s designed to take you by the hand to show you how to plan and organize your blog, creating content and content ideas, promoting it and effectively building an audience for your blog.

Conclusion

Overall this is an awesome little guide, even if you think you’re past the point of your first week of blogging, it can be a great refresher resource eBook, but newbies will certain find it more useful.
