How Attending Conferences, Expos Can Improve your Blogging & Online Business

So how can attending conferences, expos and technology events improve what you don online? Back in April of this year Samantha and I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the Interpret World Expo 2012, an event which takes place once a year in the British capital city, London, UK – and one that brings together thousands upon thousands of like minded individuals all wanting to connect with the latest digital technology, that will help them develop and fine tune their online strategies and furthermore succeed with their businesses.

We got to listen in on some great keynote presentations which included Google Mobile, LinkedIn, eBay Advertising, Skype and Rackspace Web Hosting to name a few – amongst the many talks on SEO, email marketing, social media etc.

Anyways my point is that attending such events has certainly helped me and my blogging, as well as my other online business ventures too. So I’d like to share with you in this post, 6 ways how attending blogging or business, technology conferences & expos can help improve your blogging & online business.

Attending Conferences

6 Reasons Why You Should Consider Attending Conferences, Expos and Social Events in your Niche Industry

1. Connecting with real people

Asides connecting and talking with companies and exhibitors, for me the first and foremost experience that I enjoyed taking away the most is the opportunity to connect with real people.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy connecting with new people online every day, but connecting with an audience in the flesh is an entire different experience, especially if you’ve already made a connection with them online and then meet them at events.

I’ve been able to add people to Twitter and Facebook knowing that I’ve actually met them, discussed topics of similar interests, and shared an enthusiasm with them, and that’s a great achievement to take away.

Many expos and conferences now provide virtual meet ups and social networking lounges to help you make new connections.

2. A great educational experience

The educational benefits are another great bonus and a great reason why you should attend social events and conferences. And the positive thing is that you can learn so much not just from companies, but other like minded people attending these events such as business leaders, bloggers, webmasters etc.

There will almost always be things that you can take away and use in your own business strategies, and things you can come home with and share with your blog readers as well. For me attending Internet World Expo 2012 gave me a host of post topics and ideas to put together.

3. Be kept up to date with the latest trends and developments

The main reason people attend expos, events and conferences is to check out what’s new and what’s the latest trends and development. Keeping up to date with even the latest developments in digital technology for example is essential for your own business development strategies, and that’s one of the main benefits’ you can get from attending such events.

4. Connecting with technology

We mentioned staying up to date with developing trends, but what about actually getting your hands on the latest innovations, seeing first hand what new technology there is available and how it can be used to help you develop and succeed with your blog or your business? Attending conferences can certainly help you do that.

5. Freebies

This is one of the things I look forward too, and yes call me a child if you want to. Everyone loves freebies, and you know when you attend conferences and events on a large scale, there are almost always going to be freebies.

Not every conference or exhibitor actually give away freebies though, but most do. Whether its three months free magazine subscription, or three months free web hosing, or perhaps simple freebies such as stationary, mugs, branded t-shirts or Yo-yo’s, its all good.

6. Make Money

Finally we come to making money, and no before you ask… attending conferences will not make you money directly, but in the past I’ve been able to connect with companies promoting their latest digital products, and have signed up to their affiliate program, which in turn has made me some money in the eventuality. But as well as seeking out new money making opportunities, you can also pick up tips and learn about new ways to monetize your blog or your website more effectively, especially if you’re attending blogging, internet entrepreneurship expos.

So as you can see attending blogging or small business or tech events and expos can be really rewarding, and certainly help you become better at what you’re doing online, it’s something that I will be doing a lot more of in the future too, and if you’ve not yet attended one, consider looking up Google for any in your locality. Even if you have to travel a bit, it’s all good fun and at the same time valuable to your business.

Internet World Expo 2013

I know it’s a little early to mention but I will anyway, the next Internet World Expo 2013 is being held on 23rd and 25th of April 2013. If you’re in the UK during those times at all, or you are based in the UK and you’re a blogger or do business online, I’d definitely recommend attending. You can learn so much and connect with great people in your niche industry even. You can find out more here – Internet Word Expo 2013.

I agree that judging from my own experience attending conferences and seminars solves multiple problems at a time. firstly, you meet and communicate with new interesting people in your industry, and secondly at the same time you got the content to post to your blog, that certainly would interest your readers
