My Monthly Traffic and Income Report for August 2012 [Last Report]

Well, well, well it’s that time of the month already where I share with you yet another (not so) inspiring traffic and income report and folks, I’m afraid to say that this will be the last traffic and income report I’ll be publishing on the blog for a while…

I made the decision for several reasons, some due to personal circumstances, but the main reason is that I want to focus all my efforts on increasing traffic and increasing income from the blog over the next 6 months.

I will consider bringing back the monthly reports in January 2013. There will be an annual traffic and income report published in January also.

Before we crack on with the report for August, I’d like to share some announcements, if you’re a regular reader you’ll probably already be aware of some of the things that’s been happening on the blog.

1. New 170 Blog Traffic Tips eBook – Our traffic tips guide has been a great little success in helping build our email list in the past, and I know I should say it more often but thanks to everyone who has signed up for my monthly email newsletter, and of course downloading the eBook.

The new guide is out now and available for download. You can find more about it here – 170 Blog Traffic Tips launched.

2. New Facebook Group Page – We launched BlogShare, our new Facebook group page open to bloggers wanting to share and get more social response to their content related to blogging, SEO and making money online.

You can find out more about it here – Our Facebook Group Page Launched.

3. Weekly Link Mashup – You might have noticed that Samantha and I are publishing a weekly link mashup and this has been a great little success.

It’s a unique way for us highlight and showcase some of the best posts we’ve found of the last seven days. It has also been a very effective way for us to get some quality backlinks to the blog via trackbacks being left on those respectful posts from our link mashups.

If you’ve missed any of our previous link mashups, you can view them here – View previous link mashups.

Blog Traffic Report for August 2012

OK, let’s get cracking and start the last report of the year with Augusts’ traffic statistics.

Visits: 10,427 (32.89% Drop on previous month)
Unique Visits: 8,397 (34.42% Drop on previous month)
Page views: 18,086 (31.47% Drop on previous month)

Well what a month it’s been, we’ve lost a lot of search engine traffic and that’s of course thanks to Google.

The blog has been hit and the only reason I can find for is the shady backlinks that we have; about 3% of the backlinks to Magnet4Marketing are toxic.

You can find out more about how we discovered this here – Find bad links to your blog or website using Link Detox.

Other than that, we have 101% unique and useful content, great page loading time, not a great deal of ads, a lot of useful links to suitable resources and relevant content, a growing community and some good social signals coming through.

But!!! Personally, I’m done trying to please Google, so I’m now working relentlessly, focusing my attention more on ways to increase direct and referral traffic.

So here are some screen shots of our analytics report for August 2012.

Traffic August

Bounce Rate

There has been one notable improvement though, and that’s the bounce rate. My goal was to get it under 70%, and I’m so pleased to have been able to achieve that.

The bounce rate over all for the month of August was 69.50%, which I’m really pleased with. Page views per visit also increased to 1.73 from 1.70.

Referral and Direct Traffic

Direct traffic is down 27.71% but referral traffic is up by 4.22%. As I said earlier referral traffic will be my main focus over the coming months.

Here are the top referral traffic sources for August.

Referral Traffic August

As you can see the top 10 traffic sources are helping to bring down bounce rate. The top 5 traffic sources have been from social media influences (Facebook, Stumbleupon, YouTube and Twitter (Twitter traffic thanks to JustRetweet).

Facebook was top traffic source for august; joining blogging groups and getting more shares on posts, launching my own FB group page has helped greatly. I’ve also made a little more effort to use my Facebook business page to engage with fans more.

Mission for the Next 4 Months

Increasing search engine traffic is no longer priority number one for me, whilst I know it’s important to keep implementing good SEO practices, my main goals for the next 4 months will be to really focus on increasing direct and referral traffic, and continue to promote my 170 blog traffic tips eBook, which is helping me to build my email list.

I’m also halfway through writing my 2nd eBook which probably won’t be ready now until the New Year due to changes in my circumstances, BUT!!! I have another eBook which is almost complete, the 15 Steps to Building a Better Email List, which should see light of day at the end of September. J

Income Report for August 2012

Ok it’s time to look at the income generated online during the month of August. Just to remind everyone that in my report, I state the overall income generated online from various sources and platforms, not just from the blog alone.

eBay $248.02

Amazon Affiliate $6.98

Affiliate Marketing / Blogging

Genesis theme framework $27.98

iPhone DevSecrets (ClickBank) $25.49

BlueHost $130.00

Net Total Income – $368.23

August was the month of the summer holidays and I’ve not really paid much attention to making money online as much as I wanted to.

September is usually the start of the busy season, as far as selling art online is concerned. Blog wise, I’ll continue to keep monetizing and making a few hundred dollars each month if possible, let’s hope for a better all round month in September both traffic and income wise.

Well that concludes another traffic and income report, it’s sad for me to say the last one of 2012. But I’m looking forward now to creating more gold dust content for the blog, monetize more effectively, and hopefully bring back the monthly reports in the New Year.

  2. Hi Fabrizio,
It gives me joy anytime I read your monthly traffic and Income report but you must remember that Aug traffic was somehow dropped due to some other events that occurred even at JustRetweet we experienced the same low traffic but don’t worry, this Sep will be more better for you than last month :)

  3. Sam says:

I have learned one thing from your report we should try to involve more himself into social media sites because this is the perfect way to make your presence good in social network.

    Hey Fab,
So you have achieved your goal of increasing the referral traffic mate. :)

And i am amazed to see your bounce rate as well, great going Fab.And i wish your direct traffic will go up soon.
About the link mashups Samantha and you bring every Monday, they are best in its ways and your new visitors can go through the best post quickly.

    • Fabrizio says:

Aditya, I’ve started to make progress towards increasing referral traffic and hopefully direct traffic too. This month (September) I have plans to do 4 videos for YouTube and maybe a podcast. I’m strapped for time as my other businesses will start getting busier towards the autumn and winter season, so I’ll make the best of it.

I’m really happy about the bounce rate 69%is great now I’d like to get it to about 65% in September.

      • Aditya says:

        Good luck for that Fab,
But i can’t eat up the fact that why your bounce rate is this much when you are providing everyone with such wonderful posts. Its totally unbelievable. :(

  9. Really sad to know we will not have access to your income and traffic report for rest of months in this year. These days, it becomes really difficult to please Google. We need to look out for different ways to increase traffic on our blog apart from search engines. Google uses to be making too many changes in its search algo. these days.

    • Fabrizio says:

Hi Anil great to see you here buddy. Congrats on one of your posts making it in our Monday Morning link mashup :) Yes unfortunately I will miss doing the income and traffic reports too, but each month traffic is dropping and income isn’t really increasing so I will be working my socks off over the next 4 months to increase both, and when I bring back the monthly reports in January it should be a good one.

Google has been responsible for traffic loss and I don’t know how much longer they;re going to be rolling out these updates, but I’m not going to bother myself with them either. I’m looking forward to increasing traffic in other ways and I’m sure many other bloggers are too. How about you?

Thanks for your support bro :)

  10. bhushan says:

    Going very very good.
I also want this type of traffic for my website and make them into visitors.I am working for it .
I can s Keep it up and good luck for future.

  11. Fabrizio,

I am not sure why G has to be mean to some “Really Good Quality” blog like Magnet4Marketing. I was going through your last months reports and you are doing everything what G want. Quality content and you are not writing for search engines. I am sure your work will be paid off. The best part is, you are not giving up!

Now Google is not the only search engine and thousands of people still use Bing and Yahoo. As we know, it is pretty difficult to be getting rewards from them. Let me tell you something, I know someone whose site was de-indexed by G, 3 years back and he still gets 1000 unique page views from Yahoo and Bing alone a day. My point is, don’t worry too much about G. Do your best.

Aso, I am not surprised by the low income from AdSense. You know who makes the most money out of AdSense? In my opinion, low quality sites. The sites has nothing but a bunch of Adsense ads. Sites like your has good content to read. So people won’t click on your ad. I am not making up stories :D again. I know this from the site of the same person I talked about. He makes 1000s of $ from AdSense alone. How? Give crappy content and G is good in showing relevant ads. The visitor has nowhere else to go and click the ad.

I think overall you are doing pretty decent with your affiliate marketing and it is a good sign. So, don’t give up. By the way, I am not ki$$ing your b*tt because you gave me a back link. I really like your blog and I downloaded your free eBook. It has so much information I can make use of. I started with scoopit and it is pretty amazing too.

I have never done back linking and I think I was never hit by the animals so far. However, recently (2 months back) I hired someone to do back linking for me and I think that was a mistake. I am not an SEO expert and I have about 600 back links with just 3 keywords created by him. All pointing to my home page!!! I think now I have to get someone to remove all that :D
Annetta Powell recently posted..Building Relationships with Your AudienceMy Profile

    • Hi Annetta, thanks so much for your comment, I understand that G has to make these changes to make user experience a better one, but as you say it seems to be affecting more legitimate webmasters and bloggers that are putting out tons of quality and original content. I can’t figure out ‘if a quality website has inbound links coming from shitty sites, why not just penalize those sites and not the ones who they’ve linked to, some of those links can be completely out of our control. Maybe I’ve missed something here.

I’ve seen a traffic increase from Bing and Yahoo I must admit in the last month or so, so it will be interesting to see how things unfold over the next few months. I see my traffic from Google diminishing every day, and if this is happening to many others, I think it’s going to be a matter of time before people get seriously f&%*%d off about the whole situation. People will look else where, I’ve personally made Bing my default search engine now, where Google once sat on my browser for many years, I certainly hope many more people will follow.

As regards with your 600 backlinks check out my post showcasing a tool on checking for bad links – /2012/08/25/diagnose-bad-links-link-detox/ it’s a great tool for checking for shady and crappy backlinks that could be affecting traffic.

Thanks for downloading my eBook and support, hope there will be a few tips and tricks where you can get some new traffic sources from.

In any case I hope to recover soon lol :)

  16. PrIyAnGsHu says:

Sad to know that you have lost some of your search traffic because of Google Penguin. I was also a victim of this algo update, but I’m now gradually recovering from it. Anyways, your income figures are really good although I think you used to earn even more than that. Best of luck for the upcoming months Fabz :) .

    • Hey PrIyAnGsHu, thanks mate, yeah Penguin is a damn pain, I’ll just keep ploughing into it maybe I’ll recover some day. My income use to be much higher than that yes, I use to generate close to 1k, now I’m barely doing 400 dollars. But that’s the beauty of it all really, sometimes you win sometimes you don’t. Take it easy mate.
