How to Diagnose Bad Links with Link Detox

Hey folks, there is a cool new tool on the market available called Link Detox, I’m not sure if you’ve come across it yet but I wanted to highlight some of the cool things you can do with Link Detox, that might just help you discover the culprit backlinks to your blog or website that has lead you to loose traffic to through the recent Google algo updates.

Link Detox was created by, the dude’s also behind the Link Research Tools, which I’m sure you’re pretty familiar with.

So what is Link Detox?

In a nutshell, Link Detox is a useful and powerful online tool that can help you analyze all the inbound links to your website or your blog. You can get alerted about toxic and suspicious links which you can then arrange to have removed. Consider it as your first-aid kit for finding suspicious and malicious links to your site. Here’s what you can do with this tool -

  • Check for bad links
  • Clean up bad links
  • Identify unwanted and malicious links to be removed
  • Evaluate unnatural links with just a few clicks
  • Filter and export your reports

Whilst giving Link Detox a good old test drive, I decided to check out my own domain for dodgy and shady backlinks.

Using this tool is real easy and you can get started by signing up for just $1 or you can run a free report in exchange for a tweet, which sounded pretty reasonable enough I thought… Check out the screen shot below as the report generated and gathered all data about the incoming links to my site –

Link Detox

Once the analysis was completed I was able to view all the information about the incoming links to my site. On first impression I was pretty taken back with the data generated. I was able to see and analyze pie charts of my link health breakdown and detox rules break down. This was a powerful tool indeed as it could detect issues of many kinds. For example, if there was a sharp fall in link growth for the linking site it could easily detect it. Check it out –

So according to the report I generated I had 3% or 26 toxicated links pointing back to my site, 48% or 452 suspicious links and 50% or 473 healthy links. Naturally my first port of call would be to analyze the 3% of toxic backlinks, which I should try and have removed immediately.

Here is a snap shot of some of the links in my toxic list. You will see 3 backlinks that Link Detox advises I remove. Now these could be backlinks from auto generated blogs, shady landing pages that may well be filled with spammy links etc or not indexed by Google, perhaps they’ve even been penalized… but I had to also bare in mind that some URL’s may well be new and not yet indexed by Google…

What I found quite interesting was the URL to my feed through FeedBurner. According to Link Detox this backlink was filed as toxic and that I should consider removing it immediately… Odd no doubt. Check it out -

So far Link Detox looks like a promising tool and could well become a popular tool amongst webmasters and bloggers, you can check out what others are saying about it by checking out their feedback – Or… Why not take Link Detox for a test drive. Let me know your thoughts and reactions on the tool below in the comment section as always.

Seems to be a great plugin to detect and accordingly remove bad backlinks to our sites. But, I have a small question – on what basis does this tool detect whether a link is healthy or suspicious ?

    • Hi PrIyAnGsHu thanks for stopping by, first of all this isn’t really a plugin but more of an online tool. Check out the video for more information, I believe the software uses a similar technology as Google does to find sites with bad link structures.

Sounds like a very useful tool Fabzy, 26 bad links doesn’t sound too bad but you should really look into seeing if you can get them removed.

    • Hello Sammy x yes absolutely I’m going to make it my mission to try and get those back links removed though I have a feeling it isn’t going to be as easy as just sending out a few emails. At the end of the day they are not going to gain anything from doing so.
