Hey folks, yesterday we successfully completed the theme upgrade for Magnet4Marketing and we couldn’t be more pleased with the new cleaner fresher look. Magnet4Marketing now proudly runs on the (in)SPYR responsive child theme by SpyrMedia, built on Genesis theme framework.
We’ve been using the News Child theme from StudioPress since November last year, and thought that the blog needed something more solid, something a little bit more modern and cleaner to suit the awesome content. And of course we wanted a theme that you, our readers, would enjoy using.
About this theme
This is a unique first of its kind child theme for Genesis and it’s like no other. It is currently the most robust child theme on the market. The theme was created by SpyrMedia Web Design and includes 3 theme styles all built into one, and has a total of 6 colour options to select from.
One of the many features included in this theme is the (in)SPYR subscribe area, putting a subscribe box on the home page and one in the sidebar when viewing posts and pages. This was one of the main reasons why we chose this theme as we’re pretty big on email list building as you know.
Another area we’re excited about is the responsive (in)SPYR FlexSlider, again this is a powerful and awesome content gallery slider that enables us to feature our top posts on the home page. We’ll be adding a few more of our top posts here in the coming days.
Plugins
All the plugins work fine, but unfortunately just as we were getting into the swing of using PunchTab, it doesn’t seem to like this theme at all for some reason. Enabling it sent the site into fits and we were left with unorganized texts everywhere, so sadly we’ve had to disable it for now, we’re hoping to bring it back shortly. In the short time of using PunchTab we’ve also noticed how considerably slow it made the site load.
Navigation
We’ve placed the main categories that are mostly used on Magnet4Marketing at the top of the blog in the main menu area, and we’ve added a second site navigation menu in the footer. So if you’re looking for the links to ‘Submit a Post’, ‘Resource Page’ and ‘Contact us’ check the footer.
Pros
- Robust child theme
- Attractive design
- Dedicated subscriber box
- Content gallery slider
- Multiple theme styles all-in-one theme
Cons
- No simple way to customize header / logo
- Limited footer options
Feedback
A few days before changing the theme we asked for your feedback via our Facebook page and we received some positive ones, so thank you all for your input. I’d also love to hear your comments about the new look below in the comment section. You can also check out the (in)SPYR theme for Genesis yourself here.
