How to reprogram food cravings with more water intake

When your body is thirsty, it can sometimes feel like you’re actually hungry. You get a craving for something, and may just reach for the closest accessible thing. Instead of falling for this knee-jerk reaction, take a minute to figure out what your body really needs: Have you eaten in the last few hours? If so, you probably don’t need food. Drink a glass of water and wait a half hour. If you’re still getting “hungry” signals, try a light snack of fruit or veggies.

You can help prevent overeating by drinking a full glass of water a few minutes before each meal, eating less and more frequently, and eating quietly.

Drinking a full glass of water before eating will make you feel full faster and likely stop your eating when your stomach is actually satisfied. Eating more frequent, smaller meals throughout the day rather than loading up on one or two meals can help your body determine when it is actually hungry and when you’re just bored or auto-eating. When you get up to use the restroom, take a minute first to stretch. This will wake up your body and get your blood moving through your body. Lunge your way to the bathroom to get the circulation flowing through your legs, then skip your way back. If you work in an office, you can substitute these for more subtle, in-your-office moves.

      2 glasses sound like a sensible amount, I’d probably manage the same if I didn’t drink so much coffee, though I’m trying to cut down recently. Table tennis sounds like an active sport, I love to surf when possible but realistically I need more exercise lol

    Agreed, I try and drink as much fluid during the day as possible but admittedly it’s mostly in the form of caffeine. I must try and drink more water though I’m not too sure I want to lose weight :) Great guest post Natasha, thank you.

    Wonderful post Natasha, I think we do underestimate the importance of keeping hydrated throughout the day, bloggers I know are notorious soda and coffee drinkers which isn’t good.     A very interesting article. I really enjoyed reading it and found it very informative. I guess it would make sense that keeping ourselves well hydrated would make a huge impact on being better writers since being hydrated is an important aspect of a healthy working body.     I admit it, drinking water has really got these benefits, but I think that 8 glasses is too much, it always depends on the person, to define the quantity.

    I have glass of water beside my working table even the season is hot or cold. Drinking coffee is not god for my body for more than a year so water or fresh juice i have always. You right water can lose calories,losing weight and stop for craving for food. But for me I still craving for food :)

    This is a really great article. I completely agree that we need to keep our bodies well hydrated for it to function properly. I don’t know about everybody else but I tend to feel like I’m over-heating if I’m not well hydrated. It it very important for us to drink lots of water. Not only does it keep us cool, it also helps in weight loss.
