Tech Bloggers: TechNews Theme by Templatic User Review

Templatic is a relatively young company, but a young company with a lot of heart and passion and this can been seen in their collection of top premium out of the box WordPress themes they have to offer.

Whether you’re looking for a blogging theme, a theme for your new ecommerce website integrated with WordPress, Templatic has a wide variety of design ideas to suit your needs.

Each month we give you a review of a great premium WordPress theme, and for April we’re checking out Templatic’s latest TechNews theme.

Templatic claims that the TechNews theme was strategically built by consulting real bloggers, stating that if you blog about technology news or news as a whole then this is the ideal premium theme to have for your WordPress blog. Do we agree? Let’s take a closer look…

Backend of TechNews

Let’s take a look at the general features and settings options in TechNews.

TechNews theme

General Settings Options

The general settings page allows you to easily upload a Favicon which we think is pretty cool, one of the arguable things with many premium WordPress themes is being able to easily use your own Favicon without having to hack your way through your themes HTML.

You can also upload your own logo and make your own preferred changes to the logo. Other options in general settings are –

  • Syndication / Feed URL
  • Floating social sharing buttons
  • Search facility in footer
  • Show or hide author box
  • Date format settings
  • Contact form email input
  • Disable, enable auto install
  • Content display options and more…

In the TechNews theme there are options to make changes to navigation, to add your own scripts such as Google Analytics, HelloBar etc. You can add scripts to footer or header or both.

There are also options for SEO, post layout, style and colour settings and page layout.

Widgets

There are some great widgets to get your hands on to make the appearance of TechNews theme look great for your blog, widgets such as the related listings, testimonials and homepage slider.

Pros and Cons

Pros – Good looking theme, simple to install, lots of widgets ready to use, lots of customization options including custom Favicon and header.

Cons – Pricey for a premium theme of this kind, only one year worth of updates a bit of a let down…

Our Verdict

The TechNews theme is a self contained theme and has some great features and core elements for a Tech News or news oriented blogger. There are a few other themes out there that have a similar appearance, and currently the price of TechNews theme is around $65 for a single license or $99 for a developer license.

Whilst we think the price is a little steep considering Genesis will set you back around $79 for the framework and News Child theme, with a lifetime worth of updates too, it’s still a pretty good theme needless to say. We give it a well deserved 7.5/10.
