Battle Between Google+ and Facebook

Facebook’s dominance over the social media landscape has not been challenged for a long time. With over 800 million active users, Facebook is easily ahead of any of its competitors. However, the launch of Google’s new social networking site Google+ has changed things slightly. In a very short time span Google has amassed more than 50 million active users, and looks to be good enough to keep going. Not only the users, but brands are also realizing the potential of Google+. In fact, there are some brands that are not present of Facebook but have pages on Google Plus. Here is a comparison between Google+ and Facebook on the basis of the features that they offer.

Advertising and brand pages

Advertising is one of the main reasons why brands flock in to social networking sites and it is also one of the main sources of revenue for the sites. Facebook has been a well established force in this field for a number of years, but Google+ is new and as of now does not offer any advertising space. But you can be rest assured that Google will soon introduce ads on to their main site. As of now, Google does provide the feature of +1 on ads that appear on search results.

The story is a bit different when it comes to brand pages. Facebook’s pages have a limitation because the name of the pages cannot be changed once it is created by the brand, which is not the case in Google Plus. Also the photo strip for Facebook on the brand page shows random pictures, whereas it can be modified for Google Plus. Overall Google+ pages are a lot more SEO i.e. search engine optimization friendly which might give it the edge in the future.

Feature and tools

Google+ is very limited when it comes to applications. There are only a handful of them, most of which are games. Facebook on the other hand has a lot of third party as well as in house developed tools available for the users. But Google will soon release the API for Google Plus to the developers, and you can expect more applications.

Google+ does have a few things going in its favor. Its circles feature has been very popular because of the ease of use. Apart from that, Google Hangout has also found a lot of fans, and is being looked upon as the Skype killer. Geo-tagging is also a lot more customizable in Google Plus. Facebook is quickly bringing out new feature to match the ones by Google. We will have to wait and watch for the end results, but rest assured, this will be a battle of innovations.

Videos and images

People use social networks to share their personal image sand videos. Sharing videos is pretty simple in both these networks. But you will find that Google is lot better than Facebook when it comes to sharing photos. The fact that Picasa albums can be integrated into Google Plus has made it even more popular with the users.

Both social networks are doing very well.Currently, Facebook is the giant of social networks but Google+ is not very far behind. Most people have accounts on both so it all depends on what you like. If you like them both then you can use both of them for different or similar purposes.

For me, Google and Facebook is not having any battle. It actually depends on the users on which is the most effective and relevant for them. Thus, both of them have great benefits to offer and they really are creating a big impact online.
