For a majority of bloggers who start their blog, the excitement and positivity is often short lived as low traffic and high bounce rate make them realize that no one is interested in what they are writing. And why’d anybody be interested, as all they have on their blog is “pure junk”, with little or no use to a reader. For anybody stepping into the field of blogging while thinking that they can copy paste recent news or rewrite other’s articles, and they are set to get the visitors and riches, blogging is going to be an anticlimax for sure.
If you are one of those bloggers who thinks your blog is not getting the traffic or exposure it deserves, maybe you need a little soul-searching, since blaming the search engine or the competition wouldn’t serve any purpose. Keep on reading to know the most common hindrances and how to avoid them…
1). Bland and Unfocused Content
Have you ever taken a look from third person’s perspective at your blog? If not, do it today. If you were a reader, would you be satisfied with what is being served to you? Most of the time, the answer would be a resounding NO! The main reason being, bland and unfocused content. Starting a blog without proper planning and with absolutely no target audience will lead you to writing off the hook topic. For example, planning that you want to start a technology blog is not enough; you need to be able to decide exactly what kind of content do you want to put up there? Don’t make it a hodgepodge, and try to be focused. Is it just to talk about Apple products or maybe Android? Is it about hardware reviews or is it about game reviews? Also take in consideration the nature of the articles. Will you be writing guides, opinionated articles, or just cover recent developments?
2). You’re not familiar with the topic
Many bloggers open multiple blogs, just because they see a rising trend for a certain keyword. Even though they will have almost minimal ideas about the topic in question, they will still want to blog on a topic that seems to have high CPC. Sorry to break it to you, but blogging was a concept that started off as, “writing about something you love.” But thanks to Google AdSense, blogging gradually turned into a monetary affair and that was when everyone jumped on the bandwagon, not caring about what kind of information they are giving out to users as long as their blog is getting traffic and clicks. It might work when there’s no competition but sooner than later, these bloggers have to confront industry experts who bring out authentic information and this is where these non-expert blogs go to the drain. This is why, you should never blog on a topic that doesn’t appeal you, and you don’t have experience and expertise in it. It will be a very short lived success, if any.
3). Heavy Dependency on High CPC Keywords
8 out of 10 bloggers will focus and divert all their energies into finding good CPC rate keywords. Though this may bring you a little revenue through hard line SEO, it will get you nowhere in terms of reader’s loyalty. Bloggers often go for keywords that they think will give them high yields. This approach is wrong for many reasons. First off, high CPC keywords are targeted by the bigwigs, and it’s not wise to contend against those. Blogs that focus on nothing but following high CPC keywords, eventually meet a dead end, where they are just trying to be a part of a race, but not exactly going anywhere.
4). Content is highly Derivative
There’s a serious shortage of creativity in blogosphere. Every Tom, Dick and Harry is opening up blogs just to scrape content off from leading sites. This is why there is a kind of chaos in the blogging world, as more than half the content is useless, CPC oriented or a complete rip off. Even the better sites seem to borrow ideas from others. Derivative content, which is focused just on SEO strategies are very short lived. Readers are now smart and they are able to immediately decipher who can and who cannot give them quality content. If you really want your blog to be crowded with readers, bring about articles and article topics which are rare or almost non-existent on the internet.
5). No real value for Readers
Last but not the least, one of the most important reasons that your blog isn’t getting a loyal readership is because there is no real value for readers. What incentives are you giving to your readers? How is your blog different from hundreds of blogs out there? Any valuable knowledge that they can mull over, guides, or anything original? If there is absolutely no benefit, readers will definitely not want to visit you on regular basis. You simply cannot ignore the impact of strong, detailed and useful knowledge.
