One of the greatest advantages of using WordPress to empower your blog is that it gives you the tools to expand the usability and creativity of your site, by using a wide range of themes and plugins.
On the subject of plugins, there are literally thousands of them currently available within the WordPress open-source directory, below you’ll find five new WordPress plugins which we’ve stumbled upon over the last few weeks or so that might be worth checking out, let’s take a look.
Gravatar Like
This nifty plugin allows visitors to your site to like your post, photo, video or any other content on your blog, by using their Gravatar email address. They simply enter their email address as they would when leaving a comment and hit the like button. Their Gravatar will appear where ever you place the Gravatar like feature, which is normally close to the end of the post. You can view this plugin in action on my personal blog at XtremeBlogger.net
Genesis Social Profiles Menu
This plugin is designed for use with Genesis theme Framework, and it adds a special style-sheet to your blog, to allow for social profile icons to be configured in the WordPress custom menu system.
Social Author Bio
Give your blog’s guests authors the ability to easily share and include their social user profiles in their author box. The Social Author Bio plugin gives the admin full control over where to display social icons (pages & posts), background colour, prefix and what icons to allow authors to display.
New Google Plus One
If you’ve been looking for a simple way to add the Google Plus One button feature to your blog without messing about with codes, then this plugin is just what the doctor ordered. There’s no theme editing involved, just install and hit the activate button and the Google +1 button will automatically be added to your posts and pages.
WP Delete Duplicate Posts
This is a nifty little plugin that prevents duplicate posts being published on your blog, with a few other tools and features.
Ok I hope you’ve enjoyed checking out these new WordPress plugins, and if you’re testing any of them on your blog, remember the golden rule to always backup before installing any new plugins, enjoy.
Great, been looking for an easy +1 plugin that clients can actually work out. Thanks
Adwords Consultants Sydney recently posted..SEO Do’s and SEO Don’ts
No problem, I’ve had a bit of a fad tangle with the +1 code as I’m not too hot on codes and complications, so this plugin was a real treat to find.
Thanks for the Gravatar Like recommendation. I just switched to self-hosted WordPress and have really missed the like feature of WordPress.com. I installed and activated this plug-in and was disappointed that it only seems to display the Gravatar…unlike the WordPress.com like function, you can’t hover over or click on the Gravatar to see who the person is. If I don’t happen to recognize the Gravatar I can’t reciprocate/visit their blog, etc… Is it supposed to be just a “like counter” with pictures, or is it broken?
