Yesterday I received my first ever ClickBank check (or cheque as we spell in the UK) for the sum of $339.19 (£220 GBP) for the affiliate earnings for the last 3 months. I thought I’d take the liberty of sharing with you today my short and inspiring ClickBank story and how I felt about receiving my first ever ClickBank check.
My ClickBank Story…
I began toying around with ClickBank in late 2005, but I never really gave it the real benefit of the doubt until about 3 months ago, as back then when I was just starting out like many, being a complete newbie I was going through the stages of frustration of trying to learn how to make money online, especially with ClickBank.
I tried many tactics along the way and in particular article marketing was what was so popular at the time. There was very little in the way of tips and advice and any tutorials on making money with ClickBank, and if there were any so call ‘secrets’, most online marketers and bloggers at the time were taking them to their graves… So I gave up like most things you try hard to understand but can’t in life. I also wasted a hell of a lot of money on products promising to reveal the secrets of making money on the internet. I guess really we’ve all been there and done that.
About three months ago I thought to myself that the blog was getting a little bit more decent traffic, around the 7k visits a month, and so I thought about giving ClickBank another go.
My Strategy…
I picked out only 2 or 3 really good products and made the purchase of these products so that I could play around with them to see if they really were any good and of course worth promoting.
Out of the three products I picked, two of the products I decided to promote on the blog were the DevSecrets iPhone App Development Course, and the YouTube Video Traffic Academy course; these were the two main ones I really thought were worth promoting at the time on the blog.
And so I went about writing a full review post for each of the product, and 3 or 4 additional short reviews for submission to my favorite article 2.0, blogging sites. I made sure to link each one back to the main posts on my blog.
I also added a couple of 125×125 square ad units to my main blog’s sidebar, and for the iPhone DevSecrets course I actually launched an email marketing campaign, containing a small sample of the course itself with of course my affiliate links.
I also ensured that any future posts I created that was somewhat related to the ClickBank products, I would use anchor links to link to my affiliate links related to those products, I refused to use any form of link cloaking plugin, I thought about it but then also felt that I didn’t really want to fool my readers into clicking something they didn’t want to click, so instead I used reverse psychology and placed a small note in the footer of each post to let them know that the content may contain affiliate links.
This is all I’ve done as far as promoting ClickBank products on my blog and 9 weeks later I received my first check for $339.19, and that feeling is a great one at that. It has also inspired me to continue growing the blog, learning more and understanding more about making money online, and casting aside any myths that making money on the internet is a big secret and of course sharing my experiences with you.
If you’re a complete newbie to making money online with ClickBank or blogging, I hope that you’ve been inspired by my story, and hope that you continue to work harder to reach your online money making ambitions.
