Put Passion Back into your Blogging – Tip#3: Reading

by Fabrizio Van Marciano on September 22, 2011

Continuing on our light series of posts on putting passion back into your blogging, today we’re on the subject of reading… reading lots of inspiring content on and off the web to create ideas for posts for you to write on your blog.

By now you should be well and truly back into the swing of things and on the glorious road to blogging with a passion again, especially after taking a break and of course giving your blog a much well deserved makeover, which we covered in the last two posts.

One of our regular readers mentioned on the last post, that taking a break from blogging should be something many serious bloggers do quite regularly; I’d like to back that point up even further with agreeing that this is of course essential in any means. Don’t wait until you hit a wall or where you’ve completely burnt yourself out before taking a break. If you blog on a daily basis like myself and many others, it is imperative that you take plenty of time out regularly.

Blog Passion Tip#3 – Reading for Inspiration & Getting Post Ideas

When I’m not blogging, I’m reading and boy do I do a lot of it. Whether I’m reading the latest posts on my favourite blog’s, and there are many of them too, or reading the latest articles from connections on blog networking sites such as Hubpages and Squidoo, or even reading articles in newspapers and magazines, I’m reading to inspire myself to create new content for my own blogs.

I subscribe to several weekly and monthly niche related magazines which helps me to put together many post ideas, as well as generate an immense amount of passion about the topics I’d like to write about.

If you want to be able to supply a consistent flow of ideas, passion and creativeness to your blog, my advice for you today is to begin reading other content on and off the web.

Reading is a great way to not only put passion into your own writing ideas, but it’s also a great way to learn about different things in your niche. One of the tips in a recent post was to never assume you know everything there is to know about your niche, and this is correct, there is always something new for you to learn. There is very little emphasis on this subject, and you’ll find that many posts on the topic of developing creative ideas for blog post topics rarely touches on the importance of reading…

So just to recap today, to get passion back into your blogging you’ll need to invigorate some new post ideas, and one of the best ways to do this is to read –

  • Subscribe and read your favourite niche related blogs.
  • Read articles on article sites.
  • Subscribe to offline niche related magazines.
  • Read articles in your local newspaper.

Fabrizio! i totally agree with you that bloggers must continue reading others articles, books, research papers or even comments. it is important and you rightly mentioned that it will give bloggers fresh ideas and an opportunity to think out of box. in fact learning process must continue because learning, serving and earning is a solid purpose of life. thanks a lot for your articles.

Thanks for your comment, the learning process is one of the things we shouldn’t take for granted as bloggers. I recently began to realise that there is much more to learn even though at times I feel as if I’ve learnt everything that there is to learn. But the beauty of life as in blogging is that there is always something new to learn and it’s that excitement of learning something new is what I look forward to and really what inspires me each day, thanks again for stopping by.

Actually, this is a very important step that many new bloggers do not concentrate on. Only if we read other blogs, we get to know different styles (and topics) of writing and we can determine if what we’re writing would be appealing to people or not. Of course, none of all that information we read ever goes waste. It comes back to us when we are desperately looking for new ideas.

Raj, thanks for your insightful comment. You’re very right in saying that through reading other content on the web, specifically from other blogs in our niches, we can get to know various styles and adapt from them even. :)

Hey Fabrizio

Just subscribed to your blog.

Fully agree with this. How can someone expect to blog and share ideas if they are closed off to the world?

I’m an intense researcher and reader of blogs and online marketing and because of this have been able to set up quite a few websites with all that accumulated knowledge.

My advice to people would be to blog intensively and queue a bunch of posts, and then take a mental break and read intensively..

I’m also updated in the blogging world. Fab is right, reading is really important. But I refer to read good articles online rather than thick printed books! Reading made my knowledge expand and my vocabulary to improve. I am learning everyday so just like me…keep reading, and sharing what I have read is a great thing to do as a part of my passion as a blogger.

I stopped blogging for days now. I just don’t know what to write. It’s not clear where I was heading to. i just lost the passion to it. Thanks for doing a post like this. I’ll try to rethink my plans on my blogging career.

Taking a break from blogging is something every person should do. It helps you to refresh your mind and give your mind some breathing space. Reading a lot and especially on articles that concern your niche is very important.
