Why should you have a Facebook fan page?
Just launched your new online business? Perhaps you have been online for a good while now? Thought about getting on Facebook yet? Hmmm… If you’re still a little unsure as to why your online business needs a Facebook fan page after all this time, then here’s a friendly reminder.
- Facebook pages are indexed by Google.
- Facebook has over ¾ of a billion users worldwide…
- Using a Facebook fan page is a powerful way to keep close interactions with your business connections.
There are of course many other reasons, but with those three essentials in mind, here are 6 useful ways in which to use a Facebook fan page to promote your business on the internet.
Provide your page with as much information about your business as possible – Often I get on Facebook and receive an invite to become a fan of a page, but when I go to check out the information page amazingly there is nothing to read. Ensure that this isn’t left blank. Why many people complain that Facebook does nothing for their business is because they do nothing for their pages. It’s like having a website with no information about what that site’s about…
Add photos of your products and services to appear at the top of the page – If you have products you want to promote then this is a great opportunity to showcase them. Facebook allows you to display a row of photos at the top of your page, you can use this feature to showcase a range of products and services and even tag them with the corresponding company page, should those companies have a Facebook fan page to tag to.
Link it – Use the Networked Blogs app to connect your Facebook fan page to your blog, should you have one.
Promote it – Getting your friends and families onto your page is one method of marketing your business page, you can also promote it through your website or blog should you have one, share your page with your connections on other social networking sites, promote using Facebook ads to target a specific audience and if you’re using Twitter ensure you link your feeds on Facebook so that they appear on your Twitter feed too.
Keep it updated – Ensure you post something onto your Facebook fan page at least once a day. Whether it’s a link to your latest product or service or whether you want to start interacting with your fans, ensure you do it regularly.
Collect information about your fans – If you remember a while back we talked about a great app called the Facebook Opt-in App which allows you to collect Facebook email addresses using an opt-in application. You can find out more about this app here. Alternatively you can also add an opt-in form and allow fans to signup to your email newsletter.
Offer exclusive discounts and incentives to your fans – You can further promote your products and ultimately grow your fan base at the same time by offering exclusive discounts and incentives that are available to fans of your page only.
To ultimately succeed with using your Facebook fan page for your business, to the best of its abilities, you’ll need to understand who you’re promoting to. You need to understand who your audience is and what it is they really want from your page, which is why engaging with them is essential.
