Affiliate marketing is not easy business; it is one of the most challenging method of making money online. If you’re looking for an easy way to make some money from the internet, then use Google AdSense, but for what it’s worth you’ll get pennies instead of dollars.
When venturing off into the world of affiliate marketing for the first time there are many methods, tactics and principals to learn and to keep in mind, but however there are 4 very common mistakes that almost every newbie marketer seem to make when starting off on their affiliate marketing journey, and we’ll take a closer look at them.
As many new affiliate marketers do, they place their affiliate links on blogs and websites that generate hardly any traffic. This is common mistake number one; without sufficient traffic, you’ll more than likely to never make a sale.
Whilst understandably driving traffic to your blog or website involves vigorous marketing efforts, it can also be said that efforts to market and promote a single page containing your affiliate links is one of the best ways to maximize your chances of success with affiliate marketing.
One of the issues which we talk a lot about is product awareness in affiliate marketing. It’s perfectly fine to promote links that encourage visitors to purchase products and services via your links, but how much do you really know about the products themselves? Or don’t you give a damn?
It’s frustratingly annoying seeing this happen many times on blogs especially. I promote products and services on this blog which I have used myself, and most of them are web related such as WordPress themes, web hosting; online business tools, social tools etc.
Personally I would never feel comfortable in promoting something that I haven’t used myself, simply because I don’t know whether the product or services themselves are going to be of any real use. Don’t fall into the trap of promoting or selling false promises, it can do more harm than good to your online reputation.
Another common mistake made by many newbie affiliate marketers is taking on way to much in one go. This is definitely a no go; focus your efforts on a single product or service the best way you can, to maximize your earning potential before moving onto the next subject, in my experience less is best, less means more.
Finally it brings me onto marketing and promoting itself. The purpose of marketing and promoting is to drive targeted traffic and referrals to your affiliate links, whether they’re on a blog or website or wherever. This is something that many newbie marketers seem to fail at miserably. It all boils down to how good you are as a marketer and most importantly how much work you’re willing to put into marketing itself.
Slapping links in a single paragraph blog post simply won’t do it, which brings us back to product awareness as you can only elaborate on a product or service intimately if you’ve tried and tested it yourself.
There are no doubt plenty of other mistakes that you’ll make along the way at first, but learn from them and continue to strive to build your affiliate marketing business as effectively as you can.
