How to Use a Blog to Drive Consumers to your Ecommerce Business!

These days blogging isn’t just about writing a hell of a load of content, slapping ads and praying for money to fall out of the sky. In fact I’ve even been guilty of that intention myself. But now I don’t even bother about looking to blog for money, that isn’t my primary objective.

Since I started my online success story through creating and selling original art on the internet, I’d like to talk to you about how you can use a blog to drive potential consumers to your ecommerce business website.

Over the five year existence of Van Marciano Art.com I’ve built up over 5k in email subscribers, not the most impressive number to have but many of these are targeted consumers and respected collectors of my work, many of which have returned over and over again to make a purchase from me online.

I’m due to launch a new online art blog for Van Marciano Art that will be integrated into the existing website in early 2011, and I’ll tell you why if you own an online ecommerce business similar to mine then you should consider doing the same, that’s if you already haven’t beaten me to it.

Having an online blog for ecommerce is the ultimate platform to breaking all the latest news, events, promotions, featured products, answers to problems and above all interacting with your consumers on a more friendly, professional and personal level.

Creating SEO friendly content for your blog that is aimed to promote products and services to your consumer can also play a major roll in improving your search engine ranking.

One of the most affective aspects of using a blog for your ecommerce website is the ability to interact. Let your visitors talk to you about your products and services, let them ask questions, be critical and suggest new ideas to you. All this can only open your mind to the possibility of how you can mould your online business around your consumer market more affectively and efficiently.

Driving Consumers from your Blog to your Ecommerce Website

Here is a list of suggested methods in which you can drive consumers from your blog to your ecommerce website.

1. Review individual products or services and blog about them.

2. Create posts showing examples of how your products or services can solve problems.

3. Allow customers to send in their personal reviews of your products or services.

4. Promote your products with an online competition on your blog

5. Create a top ten best selling product list on your blog

6. Compare products and services on your blog

7. Break any product promotional news on your blog.

8. Create ‘How to’ use your products or services affectively posts on your blog

Getting a Blog for my Ecommerce Website

If you’re able to integrate a blog into your ecommerce website then certainly look into it. If not you can always use an online blogging platform such as Blogger or WordPress.com. If you’re using Moonfruit to host and create your website then I know they’re planning to reveal a new integrated blogging system in their package very soon.
