Awesome WordPress Share & Follow Plugin for your Blog!

I’ve been somewhat searching for a more affective social plugin for my blog in an attempt to attract more RSS readers and whilst doing my normal search on WordPress.org I came across an awesome bit of kit from Share & Follow.

The plugin that I’m about to mention is as is a simple WordPress plugin which also comes in CDN format. What’s amazing about this plugin is that it’s a stand alone piece of kit and it’s all you’ll ever need for your social and sharing requirements for your blog or website.

The interface has so many options available that it’s pretty damn well overwhelming. On the Share Icons Setup you can choose where on your site or blog that you’d like the share icons to be automatically added such as your pages, posts, author pages, home page, tags, archive or category page. You also have the choice to select the size of icons appearing on your posts and icons style such as icons and text or icons only or text only. You can also determine icon spacing and padding. For more advance users you can choose to use CSS single images or Image Sprites, the CSS sprites is selected as default.

Now onto the share and links icons to display and there is over 30 of them to choose from including some of the most popular ones such as Twitter, Facebook and Technorati.

Other advanced settings include setup short URL’s for Twitter.

Now with the Follow Side/Top/Bottom Tab setup and I absolutely love this feature. Here you can select whether you want to show the Follow tab on the screen as displayed in the image below.

In the box where to show the follow tab once again you can choose whether you want it to appear in your pages, posts, author pages, homepage, tags, archives or category pages. You can also customise your tab by changing the global settings such as background colour, border colour, text colour and the location of where you’d like your tab to appear such as the top, bottom, left or right of the screen. One of the most important features to me is the size select options of the icons as the bigger the icons such as RSS, Twitter or Facebook the better and the more attention grabbing they will be. In the Follow Links to display in the follow tab you have the option to select as many as up to 50 icons including the popular ones such as RSS, Twitter & Facebook.

Interactive Share Buttons

Your share and follow dashboard also features a nifty interactive share button section where you can select from Facebook Like, Twitter ReTweets and Stumble Upon to appear on your blog.

Other dashboard features are the setting up of share images. By setting up a share image on your blog, social network sites such as Facebook can choose that share image as the primary image to be display in your Facebook news feeds. There is also a CSS style configuration and that all important Reset All Settings button, simple.

I personally feel that this is one of the most broad spectrum plugin available for WordPress and although it’s free to use, you simply can’t go by without donating something to the genius or geniuses who put it together. It’s simple yet unbelievably affective and adds a real professional punch to your blog. I’m loving what it has done with my blog and will continue to use it for as long as I can, so why not give it a bash and quit wasting time with fancy plugins that promises so much yet delivers nothing.

    Hey Fabrizio,

Thanks for your kind review of share and follow, we are really proud of it too.

I can tell you though that we’ve got lots more that we are going to add to the plugin soon as this is really just the beginning. The ones I can tell you about are

    - Author about/contact information (similar to your own one) at the bottom of posts.
    - Auto publishing to social networks, starting with Facebook, Twitter, Hyves (I am in holland, and it is the local one) and Orkut. I will be waiting on the users as ever to tell me what others ones to setup and configure.
    - Massive change to the admin as it has become over-complex for what I wanted, again because I listened to the users and added what they wanted. Now that seems to have stabilized for most of the parts of the current plugin I can really look at making an even better UI
    - Substantial changes to the Interactive Buttons as they are the newest thing to be added and are getting lots of comments and requests based on what is there now.

Also we are constantly adding new Icon sets to the CDN so the subscriptions for it are really worth their weight. Not to mention that it makes your site substantially faster by using the CDN. Not bad for 9,99euro, eh? Yet again the CDN and icon sets were requests from the users and we wanted to offer a little more back to people that the simple nature of a donation, so we took the plunge and monetized it.

Apart from that lot we are always listening to what people want and seeing if we can fit it in. There are so many other things we are doing that I can’t tell you about at the moment as it’s all hush-hush.

    All the best
    Andy Killen
