Don’t Put Off Potential Buyers!

If you’ve just launched an online ecommerce website then you’ll want to read this post very carefully. After doing a spot of online shopping over the weekend I stumbled upon a small number of sites that lacked even some of the most essential features that all good online ecommerce sites should have. I won’t name these sites but the basic features like contact details and basic delivery information were missing. If you’re planning to be successful with your online ecommerce business then here are some very essential features you might want to consider adding to your site. Most of these are fairly basic and self-explanatory but nevertheless I’ll go through them.

Terms of Service

This page is essential for your consumers to gain an understanding of the services or products you offer and your terms for using your services. In your TOS (Terms of Service) you’ll need to provide basic information related to the use of your website, what online payment methods you accept, your return policy for unwanted or damaged goods, expected delivery times and what forms of delivery service your use etc. To create jargon free terms of service page your might want to familiarise yourself with the current distant selling regulations: Download Business Guide Home Shopping Distant Selling Regulaions.

Privacy Policy

Every online business should have a privacy policy statement. In here you need to state and describe that you respect all individual’s privacy and that the information collected about them is never shared or passed on to anyone else outside your company. You can create a privacy policy here.

FAQ's

Every ecommerce site should have an FAQ section to answer some of the more basic and frequently asked questions from your consumers. Questions such as ‘How long am I expected to wait for delivery?’, ‘Can they collect goods from your premises’ these are just a few examples that is often asked in my line of business. With a good FAQ page consumers can put further trust into buying from your site as well as save time and effort having to contact you to ask questions.

Delivery Tracking

If you use a courier service to despatch goods its also handy to have an external ‘Track My Parcel’ link to your courier company’s parcel tracking page, again saving your customers time and effort in contacting you for an estimated time on delivery.

So there you go, just some of the key elements to get you started, if you haven’t yet applied any of these features to your site then you need get started straight away.
